Starting a Pressure Washer Business can be a very rewarding part-time business, and can possibly lead into a full time income. In this industry you can generate anywhere from $45 to $70 per hour depending on the account.

For example you can make $100 - $300 servicing a residential home depending on the service provided and this is where most people get their start in this industry.

Obviously the cost of starting a pressure washer business is the first consideration. You can get started in the business for less that $500 assuming you have a truck, van, or trailer to move your equipment from job to job. As your business and experience grows you can look into a commercial grade pressure washer. A good cold water pressure washer will cost from around $1000 and up. Hot water washers are a little more expensive but have their advantages over a cold water washer.

Types of pressure washers.

Pressure washers come in many styles and grades. Some are electric powered. Others are gas or diesel powered. They basically come in either hot or cold water pressure washers. And then the decision will come down the portable washers on hand carts or skids mounted into the back of a truck or on a trailer. Another consideration when shopping for a washer is how much pressure the model can generate (PSI) and gallons per minute (GPM) the washer uses.

 Electric power washers.

They are fine and can do a fair job but not really recommended for commercial use. I have an electric powered Karcher pressure watcher for personal use. It has an output of around 2000 PSI and does a great job washing my cars, outdoor machinery, and an occasional washing of my home. You can get more powerful models but do you really want to ask your client where is the nearest electric outlet. They have their uses but really not recommended for commercial use. Gas and diesel powered pressure washers are available in a range of sizes and generally are either hot or cold water washers.

Cold Water Pressure Washers.

This is probably where most people get their start in the pressure washer business. There are many applications for a cold water washer especially in residential accounts. Cold water washers are safe to use on wood surfaces such as wood siding and trim work on homes and some small businesses. They are good to clean out gutters, sidewalks and drives. Only drawback is you will need to use more cleaning solutions for each application and not recommended to be used in extreme cold weather.

Hot Water Pressure Washers.

Hot water pressure washers come in many sizes and are more suited for industrial and fleet service accounts. Hot water is a natural emulsifier of dirt and grime so the need for cleaning solutions are greatly reduced. As with cold water washers they also come in a variety of sizes and output.

Other things to consider when starting a pressure washer business are a variety of add-on features for your washer. Depending on where and how you purchase a washer these may or may not be including. Some of these are the various nozzles you need. Some are for applying cleaning solutions. Some nozzles spray at different angles and others generate the high pressure needed in cleaning. Off course you will need a good quality high pressure hose and water hose to supply water to your washer.

There are other considerations such as how to get accounts, advertising, servicing your equipment and a host of other issues.
